Population

The Longview Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 131,067 in 1970 to 214,369 in 2010. That was an increase of 63.6 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 440 in 1970 to 16,507 in 2010. That was an increase of 6351.6 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.3 percent to 7.7 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 51.5 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary source of added population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NIM replaced B-D as the primary source of added population in the two most recent periods, and NDM added the most population in the first period.
